Zelvolutions: My Newest Pattern Filling Projects

I'm going through a birds and feathers phase. Spring has come to the desert. I drew this bird yesterday while having lunch at Cafe 247 in Lucerne Valley, CA. The feathers I drew a few months ago. I can't remember if I posted them already or not. I'm looking forward to drawing something else today.

Illustrating Children's Books

When I was younger I wanted to be a children's book illustrator. That never happened, but the interest never went away.  So when I found this awesome book on the topic at the library I grabbed it.  If you ever get the chance to buy a copy, do it. Mermaids

I've drawn and or painted a lot of mermaids in my life. So tonight it was really surprising that I chose to draw a mermaid with my new mechanical pencils from Target. Twelve for a dollar, can't really go wrong there. And the eraser works good. The sketchbook also came from a dollar store.

When I was doing caricaturing, I loved to draw my subjects with mermaid bodies. My weakest area was sports. I could never quite remember how to draw a soccer ball or a basketball. I really should round up some kids and get back into caricaturing. I want to show you the mermaid here but she's topless and I don't want to offend anyone. We'll see. I don't really want to put a black rectangle over her torso either.

Drawing tutorials?

A while back I was thinking of making some drawing tutorials. And then I got busy and it slipped my mind. But someone just commented on one of my articles that I should do tutorials so people could learn to draw the things I'd done. I'm surprised no one has asked me before but I'm definitely considering it now. I was watching a cartooning show yesterday on TV and I couldn't help thinking, 'I could do that.' We'll see.

100 Faces

All these daily projects are really ramping up my creativity.  So I starting a new face project here: 100 Faces
Every time I draw or paint a face I'll post it on that page until I reach 100. It won't be daily (I can't take on anymore daily projects), but I'll do my best to keep adding fresh material.

Friends in the Arts

I just talked to some friends today and they got a pottery wheel. I've had college level pottery classes and hopefully I'll be able to help them out so they aren't reinventing the wheel.  They don't have a kiln yet. They are trying to get a used one that can handle pottery and glass. They also got an old loom that they are weaving on, and they said I can take photos next time I go out there. I just wish we lived closer. It's about a 45 minute drive to their place.

Anyway, here is today's drawing. I've been bitten by the drawing bug lately and wore out my hands. Drawing can be so tedious and frustrating, so I'm constantly reminding myself to have fun and do my best and if I screw it up it's not the end of the world.

drawing and making things to sell

I just added new things to my etsy store here: htt://www.Pigglewiggins.etsy.com. I sold two of my amigurumi cupcakes, and took the third one to Michael's for the display board, so I'll have to make some new ones.
I've been bitten with the drawing bug again and just finished a portrait of a fashion model. Now I'm working on one of a calico cat. The grid method is tedious but more likely to produce a good likeness of something. I really need to get a scanner though. Pencil drawings are difficult to photograph because with flash bounceback it wipes out the delicate lines, and without a flash you can't get a sharp image. Office Depo will scan images, but they want $2.99 per scan. Blah.
