The bag of stones came from AZ. I'm glad I picked the name gypsystones because they travel around like gypsies.  Posted by Hello

Life Mask Revisited

I finished the mask of my daughter Heather. I added a packet of Heather seeds she brought from Scotland, and more flowers. I redid the tip of the nose in a lighter green, and redid the eye in gold. It is surprisingly difficult to get the face to look right. I took out the bigger purple flower at the top. It was overpowering the balance. I like it much better now.

Yes the map is dough too.

The map of Dobyville is Bread Dough Art as well. It's about as big as a large pizza. Click on the photo to see a larger version. I'm going to have a blast populating Dobyville. I have about 50 of these Dobyville dolls baked that I haven't even painted yet.

This morning I had a bad case of "IDONTFEELLIKEDOINGANYTHING-ITIS" Then I was cruising AislingDart's website and came across her artistamp pages. For those new to this mail art stuff, artistamps aka postoids, aka faux postage. Well, I hadn't made any new postoids in like forever, so I set to work straight away making postoids of my Dobyville characters. And then I had a further inspiration to print them onto address labels, so they would be 'stickers' and I wouldn't have to glue each one down. I'm still experimenting with getting the right size, but you'll get the idea from the photos. By the way 33 WN stands for Wooden Nickles, and 33 FC stands for 33 fairy coins. Too fun!

Life Mask. Posted by Hello

Life Mask Project.

Today's project is near and dear to me. It's a life mask project I started a few years ago by making a mask on my daughter's face with strips of plaster tape. That mold of a mask was removed as soon as it hardened. From that, a air-hardening clay was used to form a mask. For years I didn't know what to do next, but recently I decided to wire it to a basket frame and add faux flowers and leaves around it, as well as beading. The face is made by gluing torn tissue paper pieces over the features with diluted glue. I'm still not quite done, but at least now I can display it instead of keeping it in a box. I feel I need to add more around the face, I'm just not sure more what yet.

The Purpose of this Blog

When people buy some of my artwork, I think it adds to the experience if they can see all the work that went into making it. So this log is to post my progress on my paintings, collages, crafts and projects that I'll sell or trade for other things. Feel free to browse around or ask questions.
